Arizona
Mountain Kingsnakes (Lampropeltis pyromelana pyromelana):
You’ll
never guess where these guys are found: in the mountainous regions of Arizona.
They’re usually found in elevations between 4500 ft – 7500 ft.
They can be found in rocky environments characterized by juniper-pinyon
and pine-fir. Their primary diet in the wild is lizard. This can sometimes make
tough getting hatchling “pyros” to eat mice.
Once they are feeding on mice, they make beautiful and docile pets.
I won’t sell these until they’ve eaten at least 4 unscented pinkies.

Because
of a minor sexing error, I currently have 2.2
of these little guys. By 2006, I
should have 2 more sexually mature females.
I may have to unload one of my proven breeder males, since I’ve got
some really pretty males coming up to sexual maturity, as well.
Pyros
don’t get very big (about 24 –32 inches) which means you can usually
accommodate a pair of these animals pretty easily, without having to buy a large
enclosure. Since they would spend
most of their “wild life” hiding in rock-on-rock environments, they do well
in rack systems, as well.
