“Brooks
Phase” Florida Kingsnakes (Lampropeltis getula floridana)
Brooksi
are found in south Florida. Their diet in the wild can consist of other
snakes, lizards, frogs, rodents, and birds and their eggs.
They are found in wooded regions,
prairies,
marshes, estuaries and sugar cane fields. Their
babies hatch out at about 8” long.
I
currently have one breeding pair: a hypo-melanistic male and a heterozygous for
hypo-melanistic female. In 2006, I
will have two breeding trios: a het. for hypo trio, and a trio with a hypo male,
a hypo female and a het. for hypo female.
In my experience these animals have been voracious feeders. They usually do not bite (although, my breeder hypo male is a jerk, and tends to bite without warning or provocation). They are very pretty and impressive snakes, growing up to around 5˝ ft. long.
